Moldovan operator Moldcell has launched a new promotion in which customers who activate a 20 MB daily add-on until 2 January are automatically entered into a draw. The draw’s prize pool comprises daily prizes of MDL 1,000 (US $48.94) and a Samsung Galaxy A7, offered weekly. To activate the add-on, customers must send an SMS to the short number 2016.

Speaking of promotions, this non-holiday-related one from Moldova operates on the principle that customers need to be incentivized to increase their data spend. By offering prizes (including a mobile device) to users who add 20 MB, Moldcell will not only be achieving the short-term goal of getting revenue from the add-on. It will also be influencing consumption patterns and thus bringing in long-term revenue from greater data use. If users are incentivized to buy more data, they will then use that data and acquire the habit of using more data. So we think this promotion is an excellent one that stands to help the operator’s business in two ways.
