LIME First to Offer 4G Services in the British Virgin Islands

On June 27, mobile operator LIME (owned by Cable & Wireless Communications PLC) launched 4G in the British Virgin Islands. The high-speed LTE service is available both postpaid and prepaid. In postpaid plans, 1 GB of data allowance costs $19/month, 3 GB costs $29/month, and 7 GB costs $39/month. Prepaid, 100 MB or 1 day is $3, 1 GB or 1 week is $9, and 7GB or 1 month is $49. Pay-as-you-go is $0.30 per MB.

Tarifica’s Take

Of the three mobile operators in the British Virgin Islands, LIME is the first to come out with 4G. Its aggressive approach in doing so is in line with its rollout of the service in neighboring markets. LIME was the first to bring 4G to the Cayman Islands, in August 2011, and the first in Barbados, as well, in November 2011.

Moreover, we are big fans of operators in tourist destinations designing short-term, prepaid plans to take advantage of the revenue opportunities associated with the large influx of short-term visitors to those locations.
